Introduction: Feelings and Friends

Building upon the earlier program, the Year 3 curriculum continues to develop emotional recognition and introduces social problem-solving or conflict management skills. Students practice coping strategies and learn to manage their emotions and behaviors effectively.

This program helps young students identify and label their own emotions and recognise them in others. It teaches coping strategies, referred to as "First Aid for Feelings," and emphasises positive relationship skills such as friendliness, giving compliments, and helping others.

Objective

  • Enhanced Mental Health: Promotes positive mental health outcomes by teaching students coping mechanisms, stress management, and emotional resilience.

  • Improved Academic Performance: Supports academic achievement by fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.

  • Social and Emotional Development: Encourages the development of key life skills such as empathy, cooperation, and effective communication.

  • Positive School Culture: Builds a cohesive and inclusive school community where students feel valued and supported.

Benefits

“Feelings Charades” – Students act out emotions while peers guess, helping to identify and recognise feelings in a fun, engaging way. Activities focus on helping young students identify and label emotions, recognise feelings in others, and develop simple coping strategies. Through interactive games, role-play, and storytelling, students practice building friendships, sharing, and expressing kindness. Hands-on activities like “Feelings in Action” allow them to apply these skills in everyday scenarios.
